The project 'Challenges and opportunities for EU heritage diplomacy in Ukraine (HER-UKR)', led by Dr Elżbieta Olzacka within the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University, has begun.
The consortium aims to: (1) gather and disseminate interdisciplinary knowledge on EU heritage diplomacy and international cultural relations, in particular towards Ukraine; (2) map and disseminate good practice in dealing with contested heritage in Central and Eastern Europe; and (3) provide European decision-makers with sound expertise on Ukraine's cultural heritage and (4) actions to protect and rescue heritage threatened during the Russian invasion and the cultural crimes committed by the Russian side.
It is the topic of actions towards Ukrainian cultural heritage threatened by war that will become the subject of the research led by Dr Elżbieta Olzacka and conducted at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University.
The project will last 3 years, and in addition to the UJ, universities from Belgium, Germany, Ukraine, Estonia, the Czech Republic, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Georgia, Canada, the United States and Hong-Kong are participating. The competition is coordinated by KU Leuven (Belgium).
The Jean Monnet Network (Jean Monnet Network) is a prestigious grant awarded by the European Union Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) to international consortia of universities.
