Open Access - Wydział Filozoficzny

The fund for financing open access to publications

NOTE: The Committee works until July 8 inclusive and returns to regular meetings on September 2.

The IDUJ program funds for 2026 have been fully allocated.
As a result, the call for new applications has been suspended.

The rules for project implementation and spending the funds remain unchanged (a short overview is provided below). In the case of projects covering both semesters, the release of the second part of the funding depends on the full use of the funds planned for the first semester. The use of the first part of the funding will be verified at the end of June. If any funds become available at that time - due to not using the first part or not starting the second - additional projects may be funded from among the applications already submitted that have not yet received support, or the call may be reopened.

***

In the current year, the IDUJ budget is divided into two semesters. Funds planned for the first semester should be spent by the end of June (and obligated, with ‘obligo’ created, by the end of May), while funds planned for the second semester should be spent by the end of October (and obligated by the end of September).

Note: Receiving a funding decision does not mean that an obligation (‘obligo’) has been created. An obligation is created for specific expenses at the request of the project manager. Only funds that are supported by appropriate documents - such as an invoice, travel request, contract, accounting note, etc. - may be obligated.

In the case of projects covering both the first and second semesters, their schedule should be divided accordingly. It will not be possible to transfer funds from the first to the second semester.

Due to the limited budget for 2026 and the intention to support as many staff members as possible, there is a limit of PLN 50,000, which is the total amount that each eligible person may apply for across all ID UJ calls this year.

Under this call, employees can obtain funding for open access to publications for their articles. Detailed guidelines can be found in the call's regulations (the document at the bottom of the page in Polish - English version will be available soon); the following issues are of particular importance:

  • Whether the access to the article is immediate, unlimited and open and what are the licenses;
  • Whether the journal is listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ);
  • Whether the journal is in the TOP10 Scopus (then automatic financing is possible, if the journal has an embargo on immediate sharing of the author's version of the publication after reviews);
  • If the journal is not in the TOP10 Scopus, OA financing is still possible after consideration by the Commitee - being in the upper Scopus quartile and the journal's recognition and position in a given discipline are taken into account;
  • Whether the journal is not one of the predatory journals;
  • Whether the journal is not on the lists of open publishing programs (also called transformation or consortium agreements) in which the Jagiellonian University participates.

Monographs in leading publishing houses will also be financed after individual consideration by the Committe.

It is required to include the source of financing in the publication.

Funded publications must be affiliated with the Jagiellonian University.

Open access financing is also possible in the case of multi-authored works (including full financing) - details in the regulations.

The application for financing must be submitted together with the confirmation of acceptance (i.e., the decision that a given article will be published). It is possible to apply for financing earlier (e.g. when the publication requires minor corrections, "minor revision") - details in the regulations.

NOTE: The final report should be submitted within one month of the date of first appearance of the article.

Important: Independently of the above-described call, it is possible to consult the publication path for articles in journals regarding the Open Access (OA) policy. This consultation is not equivalent to applying for OA financial support, nor is it a condition for receiving support - these are independent processes and forms.

You will find more information and a link to the appropriate form on the website 'General Information'.
