Ensuring the quality of education and its systematic improvement and enhancement is one of the key priorities of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University. For many years, the quality of education has been a subject of constant concern for the Faculty Authorities and its organisational units, as well as for the entire academic community of the Faculty of Philosophy: lecturers, administrative staff, students and doctoral students. The improvement of the quality of education is a process leading from the accumulation of knowledge to the management of the education system (teaching and learning), fostering the achievement of specific educational results by students and doctoral students, enabling their individual scientific development. The improvement of the quality of education is accompanied by the creation of a culture of quality, based on a sense of community and shared responsibility for the entire teaching process at the Faculty of Philosophy.
The Educational Quality Improvement System at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University is comprehensive in nature - it covers all levels of education and all aspects of the teaching process. The basic principle of the system's operation is the autonomy of the Faculty's teaching units in shaping the didactic process, guaranteeing the adaptation of detailed procedures of quality assessment, assurance and improvement to the specifics of teaching and learning within individual areas of education and within individual programmes, taking into account the University-wide and Faculty-wide guidelines on the creation, monitoring and elimination of educational programmes, principles of student assessment, assessment of motivation and improvement of teaching staff, methods of collecting and analysing data on individual aspects of the educational process and publication of information on the quality of education at the Faculty.
At the Faculty of Philosophy, the curricula offered in the fields of study run by the unit are analysed annually. The programmes are evaluated in terms of their relevance to the declared learning outcomes, the adequacy of ECTS credits assigned to courses, the assessment system and student performance, including diploma thesis assessments, taking into account the opinions of graduates and employers in the process of programme modification.
Education programme review report 15/16
Each unit of the Faculty of Philosophy conducts an annual analysis of the evaluation of the courses offered. The evaluation of the courses takes into account the answers to 5 university-wide questions:
- Question about the extent to which knowledge has been extended;
- Question on the ability to transfer knowledge;
- Question on the ability to obtain additional explanations;
- Question on the degree of preparation for class;
- Question on the extent to which credit criteria have been met.
and answers to faculty questions, adjusted to the specific types of classes.
On the basis of the data obtained, the Team carries out analyses:
- attendance in teaching evaluation
comparative evaluation of staff
comparative evaluation of curricula, subjects and classes
student comments
In addition, the degree of implementation of the strategy to develop a quality culture in the Faculty, the promotion of teaching assessment, the degree of student involvement in the promotion of student surveys and the impact of the survey results on curricular and teaching changes in the units and the team's collaboration with the unit directors are monitored.
The Faculty of Philosophy has its own regulations for the anti-plagiarism procedure, which obliges the thesis supervisors to verify the originality of written work submitted for assessment in the Plagiat.pl system and/or the Open Anti-Plagiarism System.
Credit coursework and other written work may be checked in the indicated programmes.
The study programmes of our unit are oriented towards the development of specific learning outcomes, providing our graduates with a body of knowledge and skills recognisable in other research centres and on the labour market.
