Fund for Journals

One of the key tasks of the Excellence Initiative of the Jagiellonian University is to support the open science movement. Among the tasks mentioned in this context is the creation of a fund for journals that wish to obtain open journal status. This is also reflected in the category of costs, which includes support for journals such as licensing, subscription to databases, salaries, and external services. By implementing a journal support program at the Faculty of Philosophy, we aim to support journals in line with these principles.

Preliminary Rules
1. Funding can only be granted to journals that are published electronically in open access or plan to transition to such a publishing model and present a plan of actions for this purpose.
2. Funding can only be granted to journals that are indexed in the Scopus database or plan to apply for indexing and present a plan of actions for this purpose.

Funding
Funding is associated with two categories of costs: personnel costs related to editorial work and publishing costs.
1. Personnel costs are granted for a specific journal in the form of bonuses or civil-law contracts.
2. The total cost of bonuses and civil-law contracts for a given journal cannot exceed ten times the number of points allocated to that publisher (a maximum of 1000 PLN per month for a journal with 100 points to be divided among all individuals involved in publishing the journal, provided the conditions above are met).
3. The Dean may agree to replace a bonus with a teaching reduction for publishing the journal.
4. Publishing costs cannot include printing costs (in line with the open access model, online access is required).
5. Publishing costs must be related to the implementation of individual journal development plans in accordance with the principles described above.
6. Publishing costs may include fees required to maintain the journal on the Scopus list.

Publishing plans for 2024 along with cost estimates must be submitted by the end of November.
