Science dissemination - Wydział Filozoficzny

The IDUJ program funds for 2026 have been fully allocated.
As a result, the call for new applications has been suspended.

The rules for project implementation and spending the funds remain unchanged (a short overview is provided below). In the case of projects covering both semesters, the release of the second part of the funding depends on the full use of the funds planned for the first semester. The use of the first part of the funding will be verified at the end of June. If any funds become available at that time - due to not using the first part or not starting the second - additional projects may be funded from among the applications already submitted that have not yet received support, or the call may be reopened.

***

In the current year, the IDUJ budget is divided into two semesters. Funds planned for the first semester should be spent by the end of June (and obligated, with ‘obligo’ created, by the end of May), while funds planned for the second semester should be spent by the end of October (and obligated by the end of September).

Note: Receiving a funding decision does not mean that an obligation (‘obligo’) has been created. An obligation is created for specific expenses at the request of the project manager. Only funds that are supported by appropriate documents - such as an invoice, travel request, contract, accounting note, etc. - may be obligated.

In the case of projects covering both the first and second semesters, their schedule should be divided accordingly. It will not be possible to transfer funds from the first to the second semester.

Due to the limited budget for 2026 and the intention to support as many staff members as possible, there is a limit of PLN 50,000, which is the total amount that each eligible person may apply for across all ID UJ calls this year.

Paciorki, mandale i dzwony. Wyniki swoich analiz przedstawili na łamach czasopisma “Method & Theory in the Study of Religion”, w artykule dostępnym w trybie Open Access: https://brill.com/view/journals/mtsr/aop/article-10.1163-15700682-bja10145/article-10.1163-15700682-bja10145.xml

Paciorki, mandale i dzwony. Jak przyczyniają się do rozwoju doktryn i rozpowszechniania wierzeń religijnych?

14.05.2025
Bijące dzwony, posągi, różańce, mandale. Wszystkie te artefakty mają znaczenie symboliczne, ale i ułatwiają udział w praktykach religijnych, np. odciążając naszą pamięć roboczą. Na szeroką skalę natomiast pomagają one utrwalać nauki i przekazywać je dalej, kierują uwagą uczestników podczas rytuałów i obniżają “próg wejścia” do wspólnoty religijnej. Ich funkcje przeanalizowali w ramach grantu Narodowego Centrum Nauki badacze z Instytutu Religioznawstwa i Centrum Kopernika Badań Interdyscyplinarnych Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego.

Small but resilient: on the non-financial resources of local food initiatives

09.05.2025
A food bank, a vegan café, an organic market. These small, local initiatives successfully navigated the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. Informal structures, direct communication channels, and a focus on social values contributed to this success. Therefore, so-called soft capitals should not be seen merely as compensation for the lack of financial capital but as an effective response to crises, according to an analysis by researchers from the Institute of Sociology of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University.

Scientific or Non-Scientific: Why theories of consciousness should have empirical support?

05.05.2025
The fundamental ideas of the Integrated Information Theory (IIT), which has gained popularity in recent years regarding consciousness, lack empirical support. Promoting an unverified idea can have consequences in decisions concerning, for example, patient rights - argues an international team including researchers from the Faculty of Philosophy at the Jagiellonian University.

Parliament as a "Collective Mind"? A UJ Philosopher Explains Why Legislative Intent is a Convenient Fiction

29.04.2025
What did the legislator really mean? Such questions often arise in public discourse when analyzing complex laws. However, the parliament is not a "collective mind" but a collection of different individuals to whom a collective intention cannot be attributed. Instead of treating legislative intentions as something objective, it should be recognized that it is a convenient fiction that helps in interpreting the law, says Prof. Krzysztof Posłajko from the Jagiellonian University.

Self-stigmatization as an internal adversary. Jagiellonian University scientists studied its impact on the lives of people with bipolar disorder

28.04.2025
Self-stigmatization is associated with increased suicidal thoughts in people with bipolar disorder, as well as strongly felt loneliness and depressive symptoms, according to a study involving researchers from Jagiellonian University.
